Hampshire based disability charity Enham Trust has announced the closure of its Skills2Achieve education programme for young adults.

Enham Trust is a disability charity that supports disabled people to live, work and enjoy life for more than 100 years, and offers a range of services including housing, care, supported employment and leisure and day activities to more than 6,000 disabled people every year.

Since 2001, Enham Trust has provided flexible learning programmes for young adults who, for lots of reasons, find traditional education formats challenging, supporting learners to gain work skills and qualifications and boost confidence. This service currently operates in Portsmouth and Eastleigh and is known today as ‘Skills2Achieve’.

Enham Trust has worked hard to deliver the service within the funding available, however this has continued to be a challenge. Therefore, following extensive review of the service over recent years, we have taken the difficult decision to exit this market. In a challenging financial environment, the Trust has identified a need to focus its efforts and resources in areas that are more closely aligned to its core purpose of supporting disabled people.

Sara Bradbury, Director of Operations at Enham Trust, said: “We are committed to providing a quality of service both our learners and staff can be proud of, and the team’s unwavering commitment to the service, its learners and their families is something to we are truly grateful for.

“At Enham Trust, we understand the importance of delivering a specialised service sought after by individuals who may feel otherwise overlooked in society and have witnessed first-hand the impact this has on people’s lives. It’s for this reason that we exit our Skills2Achieve service with a heavy heart.

“Skills2Achieve has had a positive impact on many lives, supporting more than 2,000 young people to reach their potential and equipping them with the tools they need to one day achieve their career prospects. We hope to continue supporting young people into work again in the future.”

Wider growth opportunities across Enham’s services continue to be explored and the Trust are looking forward to what the future holds for its activities.
