Vik (she/her/they/them)

Employment Background:

Hi, I'm Vik! I teach English Functional Skills, employability and personal development in the S2A Portsmouth Centre. I’ve worked in lots of different roles within education since 2007, including small FE provision, mainstream colleges, schools, careers advice, and the Youth Offending Team. I’ve been teaching at Enham since 2019.

Hobbies and Interests:

I love music, festivals, travelling to new places, crafting, vintage and kitsch things, colourful interiors and spending time with my loved ones (including my lovely dog!)

Favourite thing about S2A:

I really enjoy supporting young people to access opportunities which will stretch and challenge them in a supportive environment – often I see the biggest growth happens when our students ‘trust the process’ and say ‘YES!’ to the different projects and activities we provide, even if it means stepping outside of their comfort zone.

"We have seen many times the amazing support and care that the staff provide to their learners"

Lou

Employment Background:

Hello, my name is Lou and my specialist subject is Maths. I have a background in engineering which helps me bring a different perspective to delivering maths and my approach to teaching is to inspire as many young people as I can to share my love of the subject and ensure they achieve grades needed for real life.

Hobbies and Interests:

I am passionate about music and sports, in particular hockey. I’m a proud mum of 2 boys and spend my weekends watching them play hockey as well as umpiring matches. I am a lifelong fan of Bath Rugby and thoroughly enjoy making the trip to The Rec to see them play.

Favourite thing about S2A:

What I like about S2A, is that we have small and supportive centres which results in a more personal learning environment for our students.

Jem (he/him)

Employment Background:

Hiya, I'm Jem! I trained as an actor and spent a good few years treading the boards throughout the UK and across Europe. Qualifying as a teacher in 2010, I have worked at S2A since August 2019 initially working out of Eastleigh and now Southampton – which makes for attending twilight home games at St Mary’s an easy ten minute walk away!

Hobbies and Interests:

As well as being a keen #SaintsFC supporter, I also enjoys films, theatre and walks with my dog.

"A young person needed some time off for their mental health. Staff were understanding and supportive by welcoming the learner back when they were ready to study again, and then helped them with catching up with the work they had missed out on."

Julia (she/her)

Employment Background:

Hey everybody, my name is Julia. I've worked with Skills2achieve for 7 years with English as my specialism. I am currently teaching English Functional skills up to level 2 and delivering employment skills.

Hobbies and Interests:

I enjoy reading and solving mystery puzzles, whilst listening to 80s music.

Favourite thing about S2A:

My favourite thing about working for S2A includes helping people understand something that was difficult previously. Enabling learning opportunities to people that had a previously unsuccessful education.

Mark

Employment Background:

Hi guys, I'm Mark. I trained and qualified to be a teacher in 2004 after leaving a career in the legal profession. I initially taught in several very successful primary schools near Basingstoke and Eastleigh before joining Skills2Achieve in February 2019, specialising in teaching maths.

In my time at Skills2Achieve, I’ve supported lots of young people to gain their maths qualifications, find jobs and enrol on courses at local colleges which they never could have done without the work done by Skills 2 Achieve and its staff.

Favourite thing about S2A:

My favourite parts of the job are making the phone calls to tell learners that they have passed their exams and getting visits from former learners who come in to tell us how they are getting on in the next chapters of their lives.

"The education offer that Enham provides through their Skills2Achieve programme is invaluable"

Helen

Employment Background:

Hi, I'm Helen, and I have worked in the education sector since 1994. I have taught English, Maths, TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), ICT, and managed lots of different learning projects and programmes.

During this time, I have taught classes in a variety of settings including schools, colleges, prisons, probation offices, hospitals, dental surgeries, council offices and depots, airports, docks, car manufacturing plants, food production companies, warehouses, and on the premises of many private companies (to name but a few!).

I have taught people of all abilities, nationalities and ages. My oldest Student was a German lady called Lena, who was 82 and supported to pass her Level 2 Function Skills Maths exam!
