Skills2Achieve (S2A) is an employment and skills programme run by Enham Trust, aimed at helping young people aged 16-19 years old who are not in employment, education or training, kickstart their career.

Two weeks ago, our S2A learners at Eastleigh were lucky enough to secure complimentary tickets to enjoy a screening of the feature length film ‘Emerge’ at Eastleigh Film Festival, The Point Theatre. Emerge is a community project and independent film created by young people aged 14-25 at Hampshire-based theatre group, Theatre for Life

The film was a profound piece of work that drew parallels between the aftermath of the Titanic back in 1912, and the way in which we are having to ‘emerge’ from the pandemic. The film explored ideas surrounding mental health, endurance, and resilience.

It was a novel experience for our learners and it provided them with a new perspective, as well as an enjoyable evening which, given it was a Tuesday, resulted in getting a second pizza free from Dominoes!

S2A learner, Ethan Saupe, mentioned that he could "relate to the stories told throughout the film" and this provoked a useful discussion about the impact of film and storytelling.

Jem Rycraft, one of the S2A tutors, thanked everyone involved and described it as being "an absorbing evening which our S2A learners in Eastleigh really engaged with - stories which resonated. A validating and wholesome experience."
