For Enham Trust resident Joe, who has Cerebral Palsy and uses a wheelchair, the charity’s care & support services have given him the confidence and mobility he needs to take on new tasks and challenges every day. Here, he tells his story:

“I moved to Enham Trust in July 2012, so I have lived here for nearly 5 years now! When I first arrived I lived in Coopers Chase; however after just over a year, with the support from different teams, I was able to move into Elizabeth house, which is where I live now.

“Since moving here I feel like I have gained a lot of confidence, which has enabled me to have regular trips out to places like London, and last year I went to watch Nickelback play live, which was awesome! I also did a sky dive in 2015, which I have always wanted to do. I managed to raise over £1,000 for Enham Trust in the process.

“When I first came to Enham Trust, I wasn’t even able to stand in the stand aid, but now with the fantastic support from the Hobbs physiotherapy team, I can stand and walk using a frame! Hobbs have also helped me improve my mobility and flexibly too, which means I find everyday tasks, like getting in and out of bed, so much easier now.

“I love the fact that I can choose what I want to do at Enham Trust, I also really enjoy socialising and being on the radio here. Before I arrived at here I didn’t have this confidence, so it’s been great.

I also like the way that the team at Hobbs are able to push me, but in a nice way, to achieve all the personal goals I have set myself. Without the teams around me I wouldn’t be able to progress so well. As well as improved and newfound confidence, the support I’ve received has given me the ability to do more on my own.

My plan is to stay at Elizabeth House for now; I love it here, all the housing staff are fantastic! They really help give me the confidence to push myself to achieve things each day.
