Simon started within our Skills2Achieve programme, a service as part of Enham Trust, for young people to gain qualifications and develop employability skills, in November 2015.

“I wanted to complete my Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and English. I worked really hard and dedicated time to achieving my Level 2 in both! I was so happy when I found out I had achieved this.”

During this time, a classroom assistant role became available within Skills2Achieve. Simon was encouraged to apply for the role, as this was a perfect time to develop his career path as a history teacher. The support was put in place through the Work Choice programme for the application and to continue support with Simon’s wellbeing and mental health.

“I have anxiety and depression, but the Work Choice team, particularly Clare and Kerry, has supported me with building my confidence in the classroom and building confidence with the learners too.”

With support and motivation to succeed, Simon soon became a valued member of the team and an asset, not only with supporting the students but using the computer systems.

“My next step in my career path is to build on my functional skills. I’m also going to complete a Petals course so I have the qualification required for teaching, with the support from the team.”

Simon has now progressed off the Work Choice programme and has sustained unsupported employment and will be working full time covering 2 learning centres.

“The support of Clare and work choice has been invaluable, and I will be forever grateful for the advice, and support I’ve been given throughout the year.”

A huge well done to Simon!
