Each of their stories is unique but they're all running for one purpose - to support disabled people to live, work and enjoy life.

Let's meet some of the incredible people running in this year's London Marathon and supporting Enham Trust's vital work. Click on each runner’s picture to read their story (or just keep scrolling).

Steve and Millie
Essex, UK

“Enham Trust’s impact statement: ‘Disabled people deserve to live full and happy lives and their disability should not act as a barrier’ is something that we both feel strongly about”

Steve and Millie are Team Enham's father and daughter duo taking on the iconic 26.2 mile stretch in the name of Enham Trust this 2024! Steve started running for health reasons and encouraged – or in Millie’s words ‘forced’ – Millie to join. Now, the pair love running for social reasons and are training for the biggest challenge of their lives.

Steve has run one marathon in Brighton in 2021 and is sure that this London Marathon will not be his last. Millie on the other hand enjoys 5-10km runs but is excited to tick Run a Marathon off her ‘Before 30’ bucket list.

After talking to Millie and Steve, it was clear why they have chosen to run for Enham Trust. Steve has worked for the Motability Foundation as a charity providing grants for disabled people to secure accessible vehicles, for over 20 years.

Millie and Steve are aiming to raise £3,800 for Enham. Fundraising has been fun, and they want to shout-out Lizzie (wife and mum) who spent two months knitting sixty Christmas hats for chocolate oranges, raising an incredible £1,000!

Steve and Millie are excited, nervous, and motivated. This year they are swapping out cheering from the side lines and will instead be cheered for.

Rhona
Andover, UK

“I am focusing on the finish line, not the finish time”

Rhona, her husband and son moved to Andover near the village of Enham Alamein in 2016. Rhona and her family knew very quickly that they had made a great decision, telling us how welcome they were made to feel upon their arrival.

When speaking with locals, they were told all about the history of the village and that Enham Trust is a charity that supports disabled people to live, work and enjoy life.

Before long, they were immersed in all-things Enham! They even had a stall at our popular Enham Summer Fete to raise money towards Rhona’s fundraising target. As well as this, Rhona has been planning a coffee and cake morning with friends and neighbours to also raise funds.

“I call this patch of land my home and I couldn't think of a better way to repay them all for their kindness than giving something back to them for making our lives so happy here!”

Lourds
Dubai, UAE

“It’s not just about the race itself; it’s about running with a purpose”

Lourds started running after deciding to stop smoking in 2022, as a healthy way to cope.

Lourds chose to run for Enham Trust because she believes in our mission to support disabled people to live independent and fulfilling lives. It's a cause close to Lourds heart because it reminds one to appreciate the simple things in life many of us may take for granted and Lourds feels compelled to contribute in any way she can.

“Knowing that we're participating in something meaningful adds a whole new level of excitement and motivation to the experience.”

Lourds has been fundraising with the amazing support of her family, friends, wider running community and her team at Spice Grill. It’s fair to say Lourds has worked hard, organising and hosting many events and has smashed her fundraising target!

Andrea
Connecticut, USA

“I am honoured to fundraise for an organisation that shares the same mission and values that I do”

Andrea’s 30-year career has been spent supporting and advocating for people with disabilities. She is privileged to play a role in supporting people to live the life that they choose, as independently as possible.

After reading about Enham Trust, Andrea got involved and decided to fundraise for an organisation that shares the same mission and values that she does. Her friends and family also made the decision to participate and she is confident of reaching her fundraising goal.

“I have been running for over 40 years. I have always loved challenging myself as well as the quiet time on long runs. London Marathon 2024 will be my 15th marathon!”

Andrea can’t wait for the big day. Her family is also coming along to cheer her on and across the finish line, making Andrea’s 15th marathon that bit more special. Will you be joining us to cheer for Andrea this year!?

David
Tuscany, Italy

“I really hope to make everyone proud”

Although David is no novice to half marathons, this is David’s first marathon. David says that his training so far – “touch wood” – has gone to plan after following a Hal Higdon programme, which lasted eighteen weeks.

“I still need to pinch myself sometimes. It really is a dream and certainly a lifetime achievement participating with Enham in the London marathon.”

David chose to run as part of Team Enham this year because he feels our charity is truly unique and believes in our work supporting disabled to live, work and enjoy life. David is super excited, a little bit terrified, but at the same time, feeling very positive!

We’ll be supporting you the entire way David – you’ve got this!

Malwina
Poland

“…I knew this was the charity I wanted to run for”

This will be Malwina’s first marathon and we couldn’t be prouder to have her as part of our team.

Malwina’s mother has disabilities, so as soon as her friends told her about Enham Trust and the work we do to support disabled people, she knew this was the charity she wanted to run for at this year’s London Marathon.

With the help of friends and family, Malwina has been plugging her Just Giving page on social media, and ran a tabletop sale at her daughter’s school during their Christmas fair.

Very soon, Malwina will take to the start line at the 2024 London Marathon. Show your support as she takes on this challenge of a lifetime!

Phil
Andover

“I’m coming out of my marathon running retirement to, once again, raise vital funds for this amazing local cause”.

As a local councillor for the constituents of Test Valley Borough Council, Phil has supported Enham Trust for many years helping disabled people in our community to live, work and enjoy life.

Since attending his first local parkrun in Andover back in 2011, Phil gained the confidence and fitness to take on longer distances and he hasn't looked back.

Through participating in numerous marathons such as London (three times), Paris, Bournemouth and Edinburgh, Phil has raised over £5,000 for Enham Trust. Let's give Phil a big round of applause for taking on his first marathon in five years, once again to support disabled people in his community!

It is clear to see that Phil is ready and excited to take on this ICONIC race again, and he is most excited to be back in London with the amazing atmosphere from the crowd, to help him through when he needs it most.

Good Luck Phil, we can’t wait to cheer you! Join us in wishing Phil good luck.
