Shaun is passionate about his career in gardening

Gardening Team: Meet Shaun

Our Gardening Services are a social enterprise of the Enham Trust. The team provide a professional cost effective service and employ people with disabilities like Shaun.

When Shaun first started at Enham, he was unsure of where he was going in life, and lacked confidence in himself. Living with Epilepsy, Shaun suffers from infrequent but severe seizures that affect him emotionally as well as physically; leaving him feeling anxious and lacking in self-esteem.

Working in our gardening team

With the support of Enham Trust’s Work Choice programme, Shaun gained a supported work placement as part of the charity’s Gardening Services Team, giving him the chance to learn and develop new skills in a structured, working environment.

Quite early on in his role, it was evident that Shaun was completely committed to his professional development and becoming a supported member of the team, even conducting research in his own time to gain a full understanding of what was needed from him to produce work of a high standard.

Following steady progress with the Work Choices team, Shaun’s confidence grew and he started taking on more responsibility, being recognised as a key member of the team and never letting his disability skew his focus.

Passion for the job

Due to his unwavering passion and determination, Shaun has now progressed into unsupported work and is enjoying his role as a full-time member of the Gardening Services Team! He has also developed new skills in analysing individual tasks to help produce a guide when training others.

Shaun said:

“I’m proud of my achievements and now feel confident in my career goals.”
