Personal Care Assistant

Hours Required:
Tues-Fri: 12-1pm (preferred)
OR Tues-Fri: 5:30-6:30pm
Sat-Sun: 9-10am
Candidates may apply for all or just some of these hours, times flexible within reason.

Pay Rate: £11.50 per hour.

Job Overview:
Tues-Fri: Personal Assistant needed to cook hot main meal, as well as standard household tasks as required. These include laundry, changing beds, tidying, light cleaning, and any other reasonable odd jobs as they arise (eg help pack a bag if I’m going away).
Sat-Sun: Personal Assistant required to assist getting up, having a basic wash and getting dressed. Also tidying and preparing main room for use for rest of the day.
Hair wash not needed and no manual handling is required. PA must be able to push shower chair from bedroom to wet room (connecting door, but I can transfer completely independently. The help needed is very basic and simple. It does not require previous training.

Ideal Candidate:
Friendly person who is flexible, happy to adapt to each disabled person they work for.
Fairly independent, able to get on with things without needing continual prompting once settled in and used to the routine.
Enjoys cooking and knows a variety of recipes or would be happy to attempt some new recipes (ideal not essential!). (Tues-Fri only)
Has some understanding of the exhaustion and fatigue arising from long term illness.
Knows about so called “invisible illnesses” which can flare up very unpleasantly, yet without showing any outward signs.

Essential Criteria:
Tues-Fri only: Must be able to cook to a reasonable standard. Eg Can cook pasta, rice, and vegetables. Able to chop and fry food (onions, vegetables, chicken, stir fry etc). Can cook pasta sauces. Can follow instructions on food packets.
Reliable: Will not be away without notice (except under exceptional circumstances).
Punctual: Will let me know if they will be more than 20 minutes late.
Flexibility: Sometimes I may ask for something to be done a certain way. The candidate must be happy to do so, even if that is not how they usually do things at home or with another disabled person they work for.
