Personal Care Assistant for a 18-year-old female full time student
Location: Swindon, SN4

Pay: £10.00 - £12.00 per hour depending on experience
Hours: 4 hours a week flexible to suit both parties

Our daughter is a fabulous, quirky, amazing individual, 18 years old and has very recently been diagnosed with Autism, in addition to Pathological Demand Avoidance, General Anxiety Disorder with agoraphobia and panic attacks, Social anxiety, Separation anxiety, Emotional dysregulation, Insomnia, Depression and Mental Health challenges. Despite all of the above our daughter is a determined person with a lot of skills, an abundance of kindness, creativity, as well as a deep passion to succeed. She loves to train in aerial skills and contortion. Other passions include music, scary films and tattoos.

She loves the family dogs and will be starting a journey soon with a therapy dog, however, she does not like all animals. Her social life is non-existent and has pretty much been this way throughout her childhood.
She would love to be able to take a train, catch a bus, make friends and meet up with people but sadly these challenges create high anxiety.

Before the most recent lockdown she attended college in Bristol 2 days a week and had online lessons for another two days. Friday and the weekend are recovery days.

• Respect the families home environment.
• Communicate with mother to ensure needs are met.
• Support and encouragement to keep routine.
• Support with routine and to minimise anxiety around the kitchen.

Essential requirements
• Experience of working with girls with Autism & learning difficulties is a must. With a confident yet emphatic approach and able to make suggestions.
• A tactful, super friendly, compassionate, kind, warm person with a good sense of humour and caring attitude.
• An empathy with the needs of a young adult with hidden disabilities.
• Treats people with dignity and respect and adopts a person-centered approach in encouraging and motivating participation with patience and very clear explanation.
• Punctual, reliable, and well organised.
• Be friendly, fun and outgoing and able to think of activities to engage our daughter and yourself.
• Maintains professional standards and confidentiality.
• Able to record all relevant information and administrative tasks accurately.
• Able to work on own initiative.
• Confident, able to act as motivator and able to draw from general life experience.
• Be a little flexible with hours and attitude.
• Enhanced DBS required. Cost met by employer
• English: Good verbal communication and clear written communication
• Legally entitled to work in the U.K
• A clean, current driving license with essential insurance coverage for the role and preferably a clean car.
• To have an understanding of Autism, Anxiety, Depression. Would need to be confident and motivated to help gently encourage our daughter out of her comfort zone.
• Evidence of training and qualifications gained in respect of communicating effectively with people with learning disabilities.
