Job Title:
Personal Care Assistant - Car Driver.
Location of Work: Netley Abbey, Southampton, SO31.

Job Overview:
To provide general support, encouragement and care to a lady with learning difficulties in her own home to achieve greater independence, whilst working as part of a pre-existing team.
Length of experience required: 1 year

Hours: Part Time - Flexible to suit both parties.
negotiable / sleep ins required after adequate training

Rate of Pay
£10.00 per hour

5.6 weeks per annum pro rata (including bank holidays)

General Duties
Support with personal care, dressing, meals, cooking, shopping, handling money, indoor activities. Support with keeping home clean and tidy.

Extra Duties
Driving to and from activities, socialising and exercising

Client Biography:
The client is a young at heart, 54 year old lady with a very caring and compassionate nature. She is fun loving, has a lovely sense of humour, is very sociable, cares very much about her appearance and loves spending time with her family and friends, who are very important to her.
She enjoys weekly activities:
Flower arranging
Coffee mornings
An evening club for people with learning difficulties where she participates with skittles, craft making, table tennis and socialising.
Going to church
Going out for meals
Listening to music, dancing, watching TV, relaxing and chatting Slimming world
The client is at her best when she does not feel under pressure and when she can relax at weekends and on holidays. She benefits from an upbeat, positive approach and a good sense of humour to bring out the best in her.
Due to her disability, the client can have rapid mood swings; she can become very anxious with any unexpected change. Things like breakages of her possessions or those of her support staff can trigger anxiety as well as not being able to make herself understood. The client has no comprehension of time. Full training will be shared with experienced staff.
The client has a full and happy life, living independently in her own home with the help and support from her very caring team staff, The right support is imperative, aiming for her to have an enriched, happy and fulfilled life.

Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will need good communication, listening and organisational skills whilst also having empathy for adults with learning disabilities and their specific requirements with the ability to relate sensitively to carers. Respond sensitively to the needs of others and respect cultural and religious differences; and also communicate and act in a non-discriminatory manner. The candidate will need to treat people with dignity, respect and adopt a person-centred approach. It is important to be very patient and have the ability to use your initiative and to work under pressure.
Type of experience required: Experience working with people with learning difficulties and autism.

Reliable, honest, and trustworthy
Ability to plan, organise, and multitask with minimal supervision. Experience working with people with learning difficulties and autism. Good communication skills, patience, empathy and a good sense of humour.

Training Required
Shadowing other experienced members of the team.
