Job Overview:

We are looking to add to a team of PAs to cover 24/7 care at home of this delightful 76-year old married lady with Motor Neurone Disease


18:00 – 23:00 and/or 23:00 – 05:00 (client’s night is currently typically undisturbed with 1-2 brief calls perhaps 3 nights per week; PA would have option to sleep on-site beyond 05:00); 3-6 days per week per PA.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Care of client during 18.00-23.00, and/or 23.00 to 05.00 (sleeping shift unless client calls in the night) as part of team of trusted PA carers.
• Main PA (who will continue to care for client 05:00 - 18:00) has been client’s live-in carer for over a year and is able to assist fully with training.
• Help client with cough-assist when needed and provide general on-call care with personal alarm for client’s wishes (drink of water, answering phone, TV control etc)
• Prepare evening meal for client and husband, and feed client. Provide company to client as appropriate, e.g. if husband or other family/friends not present
• Double-handed hoisting as required, e.g. from powered wheelchair into reclining chair after meal sometimes; into bed with appropriate bedtime routine. (The 4 necessary double-handing visits are already in place).
• Lock up house for the night following departure of double-handing carer by 23:00
• Client’s family (adult offspring, grandchildren, siblings) and circle of good friends often visit.
• The house - a large family home, formerly run by client and husband as a guest-house, in a stunning spot 5 minutes from the beach - has been adapted to help with assisted living for disabilities, and a full wet room and lift enable the patient to access all areas of the house in her wheelchair. The NHS specialist team has provided a "Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure" machine and a cough assist, and mobile and ceiling hoists to assist with moving and handling.

Essential requirements:

• Enhanced DBS required. Cost met by employer
• Legally entitled to work in the UK
• Calm and friendly, communicative style

Desirable requirements:

• Experienced in health & social care, particularly providing one-on-one care for adult with wheelchair-bound physical disability
• Trained in personal care, hoisting, non-invasive ventilator equipment, cough assist
• Ability to cook and serve appropriate nutritious meals
