As part of our Information Advice and Guidance Service Enham Trust supports disabled people to employ their own staff. This vacancy is not a role within Enham Trust but an excellent opportunity to work directly for one of our customers.

Job Overview:

Part- time personal assistants needed to join an existing happy team of PA’s who care for a disabled gentleman with complex needs, receiving 24 hr care – Wells area, Somerset.

Pay Rate:
£11-£13 depending on experience.

Regular hours:
Monday 4pm -10pm,
Wednesday 6pm – 10pm
Additional Bank hours available.
Waking nights are also available.
This advert is for more than one PA as there is maternity cover needed for Brian for the autumn as well as the main shift.
The agency doing the waking nights have given notice, so there will be 7 waking nights to fill.
Holiday and sick cover as required.

Main Duties:
The work involves aiding with the tasks listed below to enable me to live as independently as possible.
As my needs vary it is important that the Personal Assistant is flexible about what the work involves and agrees to undertake any other reasonable tasks that I request.
Able to cover for annual leave and sickness and extra bank hours as agreed in advance.
1. helping me transfer to and from my bed, using a hoist
2. helping me get in position and turn in bed and in my wheelchair.
3. assist me in taking/applying & recording medication.
4. helping me with bladder/ bowel management, including changing/emptying a urine bag.
5. assisting me with peg feed &. gastrostomy care.
6. washing and bathing me, in bed and in the bathroom.
7. doing my teeth, skin, feet, nails and hair care
8. shaving me.
9. dressing and undressing me
10. assisting me with oral hygiene, suction and swallow, as risk of choking.
11. assisting me with physiotherapy exercises and moving my limbs.
12. shopping & or assisting me with shopping
13. opening my post
14. setting up reading and writing materials for me
15. setting up my computer
16. filing and mailing my correspondence.
17. collecting and carrying things on my behalf.
18. making and changing beds
19. undertaking light household duties such as washing up, laundry, ironing, storing, hoovering, dusting and cleaning
20. collection of my prescriptions.

Ideal Candidate:
• Patience and good communication skills.
• Previous experience of complex disability needs and health care tasks.
• Must be reliable, punctual, kind and trustworthy - arrive at agreed times, to give notification of lateness.
• Confident in working with people with disabilities.
• Good communication and social skills.
• To respect confidentiality and privacy.
• To understand importance of dignity and independence to me.
• To appreciate the stresses and strains involved for a disabled person.
• Be willing to learn and have ability to work own initiative.

Essential Criteria:
•Enhanced DBS Check - cost will be met by employer.
•Legally Able To Work in UK
•Full Driving Licence: Would be an advantage but not essential.
