The first step is to find out if you qualify for Direct Payments from your local authority or the NHS. You can talk to our specialists at Enham Trust to discuss this in more detail, but here are the main points:
Direct Payment Assessment
First of all, your social and health care needs are assessed to see if they are eligible for funding.
If, to remain living independently, you need social care (help with bathing, feeding or access to the local community for example) the council will means test those care needs. If they're deemed to be eligible, then you can choose to have those needs met by the council, or you can opt for Direct Payments.
Similarly, your health needs may be assessed by your Health Care Provider too. (You might need specialist nursing, for example, or help with medical equipment). If those health needs are eligible, you will receive that care straight from the NHS or you can opt for Direct Payments from the NHS through a Personal Health Budget.
In either case, Direct Payments mean that instead of the local authority or NHS arranging and paying for your social and health care, you receive the money directly so you can organise and manage your own health care and social support.
Self Funding Options for Direct Payments
If your financial assessment makes you ineligible for Direct Payments, Enham Trust can still offer you - as a self-funder - the same service, advice and guidance while you plan your care and support.
