Former jobseeker Matthew at his new job

Work Programme: Meet Matthew

Work Programme advisors helped Matthew find long term employment he enjoys

Matthew has a learning disability and left school without any qualifications. Although he tried, his heart wasn’t really in it – he had suffered rejection all his life and was just waiting for the next no.

It wasn’t an easy journey for Matthew, he had difficulty with his spelling and he found applications and online questionaires really difficult.

Matthew loves computer games and only had to play once before coming top in the online leader boards. Jobs testing games were hard to come by, and then there was the dreaded online questionnaire!

Matthew came to Enham Trust’s Employment & Skills as a Work Programme customer.

He’d decided that he wanted to work in Retail and a spell at the British Heart Foundation in Newbury added to his confidence. He attended Enham Trust’s Working in Retail course and Reading College’s Confidence and Motivation course and then took control, and began applying for retail jobs. He started to get interviews.

Enham’s job skills advisors helped me prepare for interviews and built up my confidence

So much so, that noticing a job vacancy in the window, he walked into Newbury electrical retailer Maplin and after four years of searching now has his dream job! He has now been there over 6 months.

I would never had got this wonderful job without the support from Paddy at Enham Trust.
