I have chronic arthritis in my knees and ankles. I had to stop working as a graphic designer because the pain became so severe, and I could hardly walk. I was housebound and could hardly walk without the aid of a stick. My confidence and self-esteem plummeted.
Then I joined Enham Trust’s Step2Employment programme. S2E is designed to help people like me with disabilities or health problems to find worthwhile employment. It gave me my confidence back.
Mixing with other people facing similar problems really helped. With the help of a tutor I built up my CV and was supported in job searching and interview practice. We applied for up to three positions a week!
I now have a full-time job as an IT engineer with Fujitsu and I couldn’t be happier!
If you are 16-19, (or aged up to 24 with a learning disability) and need help deciding what to do next, then Enham Trust’s Skills2achieve programme can help.
We develop innovative and relevant programmes that open up opportunities for worthwhile employment. Find out more about our Step2Employment, work choice and work programme.
