Mani's Story

Mani's Story

When Mani started at Cherry Garden in September 2015, he used a buggy and walked with the aid of a walking frame. To move around without his walking frame, he needed an adult to hold both his hands in order to stay balanced.

Mani then began on The Move Programme, which focuses on setting goals important to each individual child and their family. Mani’s initial long term goals were:

1. To walk from room to room independently at home

2. To walk to the local shops and back without a buggy or wheelchair

3. To sit with his legs outstretched for bath time

After working hard on his walking for 18 months, during Move Day 2017, Mani started to walk independently around school. He now walks around school and covers some short distances to visit the local shops with his friends in class. Recently, Mani has started walking all the way home from school with his Mum!

Mani’s ability to walk independently has made a huge difference to his life. He is now able to access activities with all of his friends at Cherry Garden that, had it not been for The Move Programme, he would have found very difficult previously.

We are all very proud of him and his achievements on The Move Programme!

Mani in January 2018:

“Mani’s ability to walk independently has made a huge difference to his life”

“He is now able to access activities that, had it not been for The Move Programme, would have been very difficult”

“We are all very proud of him and his achievements on The Move Programme!”
