For Glenn, working at Enham Trust has been a journey of learning new skills. As Glenn moves onto a new employment adventure, here, he tells us his story:

"I have been at Enham Trust for about 20 years and I started working as a trainee in the Gardening team. I started in all types of gardening work and then started an NVQ in Horticultural Level 1 which I really enjoyed and passed.

I enjoy being outdoors which is why my gardening role has been great for me. My favourite tasks are grass cutting, laying patios and landscaping. When I first started, the team planted lots of shrubs at one our care homes at Enham Trust called Elizabeth House; I really enjoyed this and I’ve been able to watch the estate grow over time.

I’ve also been able to rent my own place through Enham Trust. Before, I was living with my Mum, so it was great to be able to have a place of my own within shared accommodation and it was a chance to meet new people. The flat is in the village, so I am really close to work and have the support when I need it. I’ve learnt so many skills living on my own, particularly cooking for myself; I feel more independent.

Since my time at Enham Trust, I’ve grown in confidence. I’ve met lots of new people and learnt so many new skills. Alongside gardening, I’ve completed my Maths and English functional skills, Level 2 in Warehousing, basic IT skills, First Aid, and I can drive all the gardening work vans to jobs in the local area. Recently, I’ve been leading corporate groups with gardening; I would never have been able to do this a while ago but now I feel more confident in front of a group of new people.

My support advisor Clare has been amazing. I can call her with any problems and she is always here to help me. Clare supported me with my job applications online and came to interviews with me to support with the questions. I applied for a local job at the council and the interview went really well. I was really nervous but after a few days, I got a phone call to say that I had been successful!

My new role is working as a Street Operative on a full time basis – I’m really excited and nervous about it. I will still receive support from Clare for another 6 months while I settle into my new role.

I feel that I’m ready for this new challenge and to meet new people. I want to say a HUGE thank you to the whole team for the support I have received over the past 20 years, especially to Clare who helped me to get this new job."
