Meet our Trustee Marianne Black

Area of expertise: Law, Education & Governance

Marianne Black most recently held the position of Chair of Trustees of the British School in Tokyo, which she held for 5 years during her residency in Japan, before her relocation back to the UK in 2017. 

Marianne is a UK and Hong Kong qualified lawyer and started her career at Allen & Overy in London before transferring to their Hong Kong office specialising in corporate insolvency. On moving to Shanghai she focused on the education, training & development of lawyers as a member of the legal HR team for Clifford Chance. It was during this time she took on her first voluntary governance role for Lifeline Shanghai, a telephone helpline for English speakers, which she chaired for 3 years. She was awarded an MBE in 2017 for her services to British Education Overseas. 

Marianne has an interest in education and disability in the non-profit sector and hopes to expand her work in these areas. She has four primary school aged children, lives locally and enjoys singing, riding and running... when she has time.
