Care/play assistant for 12 year old girl with learning difficulties

• Saturday or Sunday daytime fun activities (6 hours per week)
• School holiday daytime fun activities (1-3 days per week).
• Overnight respite care at home or away

Exact hours are negotiable. Employment contract with guaranteed hours or flexible arrangement, also negotiable.

Pay Rate: £11 per hour
Travel during working time: 0.45p per mile
Permanent pending 6 month probation period (7 days notice)

Job Description:
Opportunity to make a real difference to the life of an extraordinary 12 year old girl. Our daughter has severe learning difficulties with no speech. She loves going to the cinema, swimming, rides, jumping in muddy puddles & people watching. She wants someone who is fun loving to help her go out and enjoy fun activities at the weekends and during the school holidays.
With severe communication difficulties, she finds it hard to make friends and is at risk of social isolation. Role is to help her build her social skills, and provide opportunities to help her build friendships.
She needs someone who can help her stay safe away from home and provide all her personal care.
She is laid back and affectionate and loves being around people.

Social needs:
1. driving her to fun activities & places
2. having fun with her at activities e.g. swimming, zoo, cinema, theme park.
3. helping her to walk/run around safely (e.g. running after her when she tries to head off in the wrong direction)
4. helping her make friends appropriately (not cuddling strangers)

Personal needs:
1. Helping know when to get into and out of my bed.
2. Giving medication - no medical knowledge required.
3. Taking her to the toilet, and changing her incontinence pad (bowel and urine) when necessary.
4. Washing and bathing, cleaning her face after meals.
5. Brushing her teeth and hair care.
6. Dressing and undressing her
7. Supervising her to eat and drink appropriately
8. Understanding her well enough to help her communicate with others, when she is trying to tell them something.
9. Learning how to use her communication aid (training available).

Domestic needs:
1. undertaking preparation and cooking of meals and drinks
2. cleaning if she spills anything
3. putting washing machine on if she has spilt on her clothes/bedding

Essential Criteria:
Driving license and car.
Fun loving and energetic
Patience and empathy.
Good non-verbal communication skills
Physically fit and active.

Desirable Criteria:
Previous experience of caring for children or adults with similar needs would be useful but not essential.
